Happy new year, y’all.
The title refers to a delightful book I read last year called Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. It’s also a heads up about tomorrow’s newsletter and explanation you should have gotten before sending last week’s newsletter.
You see, a lot of you subscribed to me breaking down the madness in my mind as best I can in essay format.
They gave you a glimpse into my mind as a content creator in hopes you might see how it show up in my work. And the Marketing Under The Influence Volume 1 podcast is my work.
It may look like a passion project. And it arguably is.
Marketing Under The Influence Volume 1 is a legitimate experiment to test the potential of concepts from media left untapped in B2B marketing and I’m pretty darn passionate about learning that shit.
And if you are passionate about learning, I promise to give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how it was developed, the interview strategy, and other fun stuff that'll hopefully be useful after the final episode ships.
For now, though, I’m inviting you to follow me along on a journey to explore the media that influenced the marketers responsible for the messages we consume today.
Marketing Under The Influence Volume 1 is an introspective narrative interview series that takes inspiration from shows like Radiolab and This American Life.
Each episode tells the story behind the media that played a prominent role in a marketer's life.
Through movies and games to entire music genres — even the title of a book, not the book itself — you'll learn how media shapes our reality and have a newfound appreciation for the influence media has on us (so that we may wield it's power more responsibly).
We began last week with Annette Cardwell, the VP of Brand and Corporate Comms at Lattice, who in middle school suffered an identity crisis until movie night at summer computer camp, where reenactments of lightsaber duels and prepubescent impressions Yoda gave her the cheat code to building relationships that transcend geographical, cultural, and social-economic boundaries reveals itself.
If you haven’t listened to the first episode of Marketing Under The Influence Volume 1, do yourself a favor and nip that in the bud, would ya? Here’s the link.
Tomorrow you'll hear from Krista Doyle, Content Marketing Manager at Jasper, who was having her own identity crisis. Krista's episode goes out tomorrow morning 6 AM PST. I hope you enjoy experiencing it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Thank you again for your attention.
Cheers!
♥️ Ronnie
